The acclaimed San Diego Women's Chorus (SDWC) invites you to join in its momentous 35th-anniversary celebration, EVOLUTION, on November 20, 2022, at 4 pm. This historic concert will take place at Lincoln High School in the heart of San Diego. EVOLUTION kicks off the SDWC 2022-23 concert season, ushering in the next era for the chorus and introducing a new generation of talented singers to our community.
EVOLUTION will revisit 35 incredible years of dynamic musicians united by their collective passion and purpose. SDWC connects people from all walks of life in a shared, safe space to facilitate musical expression and inspire social action as individuals and as a collective. EVOLUTION celebrates every facet and iteration of SDWC as it has evolved over the years. Even through tumultuous times, domestic and international conflict, and a pandemic, the 100+ singers who dedicate their time, energy, and voices to the organization have remained a driving force throughout its existence.
Over the years, many individuals have shaped the creative direction of SDWC. A number of talented artists, musicians, and community leaders have helped to grow and guide the chorus. Founder Dr. Cynthia Lawrence, longtime former Artistic Director Chris Allen, and countless others have contributed to this deep musical foundation, inspiring and bringing together a diverse group of singers to carry their legacy.
Led today by Artistic Director Kathleen Hansen, and Assistant to the Artistic Director Calieanne Grossheim, SDWC’s EVOLUTION will guide audiences on a musical journey through the history and heritage of the choral group.
Kathleen Hansen shares a sneak peek to what the audience can expect from the evening, ”SDWC has a 35 year legacy of social action and creativity that we share with our audiences through our performances. For our anniversary concert, we will reprise chorus favorites highlighting moments in our history, perform familiar crowd pleasers, and introduce stunning new works. Tickets for “EVOLUTION: 35 Years of SDWC” are on sale now and can be purchased at https://www.sdwc.org/. Discounted tickets are available for youth, students, seniors, military, and disabled patrons. Both performances will be ASL-interpreted for deaf and hard-of-hearing audience members.
