Quiet No More: A Choral Celebration of Stonewall

By San Diego Women's Chorus (other events)

2 Dates Through May 19, 2019

ABOUT ABOUT

The San Diego Women's Chorus invites you to attend our monumental 2019 spring concert Quiet No More. This inspiring event will take place May 18th and 19th, and will honor the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising. The concert will feature a brand new commissioned work of the same name that honors the 50th anniversary of the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in New York City by relaying the events that kickstarted the modern international LGBTQ movement. In addition to the "Quiet No More" commission, SDWC will be performing a selection of electrifying and empowering pieces, including songs like "You Will Be Found" from the hit Broadway musical Dear Evan Hansen, and the Isley Brothers' throwback, "Fight the Power." This inspiring event will take place on Saturday, May 18, 7 PM and Sunday, May 19, 4 PM, 2019 at the Lincoln High School Center for Performing Arts, 4777 Imperial Avenue, San Diego, CA 92113.

The work will tell the Stonewall story clearly and passionately, and will include previously unheard voices and the latest historical insights. The history of Stonewall will be balanced with the uprising’s continuing impact in the present moment, and the future campaigning work that is still undone. • Composers: Seven composers are involved in the project: Jeff Marx, Michael Shaieb, OurLadyJ, Julian Hornick, Ann Hampton Callaway, Michael McElroy and Jane Ramseyer Miller. The work will have some classical elements, but will also feature musical theater and popular styles, and women and other minority composers will be central.

SDWC is the only women's chorus performing the new commission as a stand-alone ensemble

Concert will be ASL-interpreted for deaf and hard of hearing patrons
